A series of octavo-sized publications dedicated to the typographical 'And', [and '&']. Begun as a student exercise at the Werkplaats Typografie, in collaboration with Paul Elliman, the 'And' series is inaugurated with the breathless essay 'And' by American novelist and literary critic William H. Gass, first published in 1986. Gass ruthlessly circumnavigates the And, extrapolating and testing the meanings of one of the most restless conjunctions in the English language.

The second booklet in the series 'Hey Now!' comprises a collection of found ampersand objects by Amsterdam based graphic designer Jens Schildt. The title of this publication borrows its name from the eponymous 1957 Jazz composition by William ‘Red’ Garland. ‘Hey Now!’ was the default song in Jens’ slideshow software accompanying the first viewing of the images towards this publication. The layout of ‘Hey Now!’ traces that of the previous ‘And’ publication.

The third booklet in the series will be a commissioned essay by theorist Marina Vishmidt, to be published in November 2012.
